Internship

 

WHEFA operates with a staff of four and since 1996 has operated an internship program. Approximately three interns are hired per year during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. As of September 1, 2008, 25 students from seven different colleges have participated in the program. Interns benefit WHEFA by assisting in many different areas. In turn, WHEFA will work to provide well-rounded exposure to the general business activities of a quasi state governmental agency involved in capital finance. The following areas are included as part of the internship program:

Review and Involvement in the Bond Financing Process

• Overview of historical activity
• Outline of financing process
• Review of financing documents
• Attendance at financing meetings and conference calls
• Closing and compliance process
• Involvement in Office Administration and Projects
• Preparation of project summaries for distribution at board meetings
• Preparation and distribution of state and national newsletters
• Ongoing review of financing compliance
• Review of financing alternatives
• Enhancement and maintenance of financing database
• General administrative tasks


The qualifications for the position include, but are not limited to, an educational background including a junior/senior majoring in Business Administration (i.e. Finance, Accounting). The Intern should possess good analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Computer experience is helpful. He/she will need to be able to work both independently and in a small group environment.

The position will be part-time, approximately 10-12 hours weekly. WHEFA's office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Work schedule is flexible to accommodate class and work schedule. The position will pay $12.50 an hour with no additional benefits and will last for a minimum of three consecutive months. The approximate dates offered are as follows:

Spring Session: January - April
Summer Session: May - August
Fall Session: September - December
